- The branch of zoology devoted to the study of fish.
Used in a sentence:
- The ichthyologist received little respect around the office at least until she took everybody out for sushi and was the only one not to call in sick the following day.
No we’re not starting aquatic theme series this month. This was a coincidence. Sorta. Anyway what and awesome word, right!? Ichthyology! Totally the study of things that are Ichthy! Which happens to turn out to be fish, which is less interesting but still very funny. Ichthy is greek for fish, of course, so that’s how we get this fun little word. Also I don’t know if Ichthyologists can tell good sushi from bad but if they can, it seems like it’d be a great perk to the profession.
