Commentary:
I think this is the first weird word that also has an idiom meaning! This means that the last possible meaning of the word redolent, that is suggestive or reminiscent, was popularized through speech despite any etymology or relation to prior meanings. It is rather like the phrase “Raining cats and dogs” or “dig up”. Otherwise I rather like this word for its actual meaning. It is a nice descriptor word for smelly stuff.
