Draft Word Count: 76,963 (Delta: +0[14])

So I’ve been rather bad and not attending writing sessions and not posting about them. A little bit of both. I apologize but things have been getting a little hectic personally and posting becomes secondary to actually getting some writing done. I’ll try to be a bit more regular from now on.

Everlasting Update

So I remember working primarily on the outline last time I wrote. Unfortunately as I write this, Scrievener is updating so I don’t know my exact word count. I also remember deciding that I knew where my characters were going for the next. Ahh there we go. Scrivener is up. Yes the outline is going well. I’ve figured out another catalyst/mini-climax of a air-battleship crashing into the city. That’ll be exciting!

Anomalous Writing

So Anomalous Writing seems to be surviving well without me, which I am happy for. I still send out writing session reminders but I’ve missed two sessions and it seems like others are showing up without me. Jeana and Marie are still my regulars and I haven’t found an extra member to try to round that out yet but overall I think things are going well. Need to set some time aside to work on achievements…

Everlasting Stats

The following stats are a little off because I started writing before I finished this post so they represent a few extra words than last time.

So I didn’t post last time. Sorry. I’ve been finding that I don’t make my word count unless I being writing immediately when I sit down. So these posts are going to start becoming fewer. Hopefully at least once a week. AS you can see I made my word count and then some. Made up for the prior Thursday. Today however I won’t be writing on Everlasting save for this blog. I’m working on something I can’t really talk about but I’ll let you know if I get it.

Everlasting Update

On a new scene. Olivia, a prior background character, is getting a lot of personality as she talks to Marla in this current scene. Actually have a few pages of just some bantering before we get into some of the plot stuff, talking about the disaster of Qual Plaza. I just realized that recounting the disaster is really all background and not really furthering the plot, so I need to have Marla gleam something from it. She has a scientific background so maybe there is something. A transmission vector or something.

I had an idea for the sequel that I think is really cool, based off of something I saw in Sucker Punch. Automata zombies. Whatever bad guy survives this book will retreat and instead start harvesting zombies to build a better army that is more easily controllable without the help of the necromancers. We’ll see. It’s a concept idea right now. I might hint at it in this story though.

Anomalous Update

I need to find some time to work on achievements. I didn’t realize it, but I am attempting to perform gamification, at least as outlined by the guys over at Extra Credits, by creating a reward system for being in the writing group. Otherwise the group is going well. I still feel we need one or maybe two more physical members. I’m also hoping to figure out how to make being apart of the group over the net more engaging. I’ll probably end up tying it into the achievement system by asking for reports of what people are doing (to mimic the achievements for showing up regularly to physical meetings).

And that does it! Broke 75,000 words! Makes me wish I had the achievement system working so I could award myself an achievement. Yes I’m using the huge number to cover up the fact I only wrote half of my usual goal. What of it?

I’ve been considering revising my daily goal. I’m not regularly hitting 1000 words. I”m not sure why. This blog posts might be apart of it but I like keeping you dedicated readers updated. Maybe reducing to 750 words to give myself something a little bit more attainable. I also think maybe I should look into increasing the number of times I write to three times a week instead of just two.

Another small note. The full calculation of the number of words I’ve written for this story now calculates at over 100,000 words. This is after I cut out the outline for the next book. Woo!

Everlasting Update

Finished the first real death scene. I think it worked out well. I may need to rename the Hudson character. Hudson and Hicks might be a bit too tongue in cheek yes? Well if I start adding more comedy to the book in a later revision they’ll fit in. Next scene is Marla’s recovery and a flashback to the Battle of Qual Plaza. Looking forward to that one!

Anomalous Writing

The group is performing more or less normally. Everybody still seems to be writing. We have one or two members on vacation. I am thinking I would like to invite at least one more member to even out attendance as there are still times when only I show up, which gives me motivation not to write when there are other things to do.

Okay so my word count may not look awesome but let me tell you, the members section for Anomalous Writing looks awesome. Well it looks, anyway. That is what I spent my time last time working on. It’s a little thing but once I have achievements worked out, I think it’ll be a fun past time.

Everlasting Update

So yeah. Nothing really to update. Which is sad and I should be working on this more. I obviously seem to be taking some easy routes of working on other stuff, which is bad. I think it’s because I once again feel rather nebulous about the ending which is what stopped me from writing last time. That and the lack of dedication to sit down and write. I have the latter, let’s work on the former. I shall write today!

Just as soon as the newest beta of scrivener downloads.

Anomalous Writing

So the private Google site I use has more info about the group on it now. Mostly just me. I’d share it with ya’ll but it is locked to members only. Basically I added member pages so that when achievements are done, people have a place to display them! I’m looking for ideas for writing achievements so if you have any ideas, please let me know.

Ha! Take that word count! That actually makes up for Thursday of last week. I don’t think it’ll make up for today however as I have gotten in really late, and I am also alone, and I am actually thinking of doing some general writing group administration instead of writing today. It /is/ a holiday, being St. Patty’s day. Not a real excuse I know. I guess we’ll see come Tuesday!

Anomalous Writing

Last writing session was awesome. I definitely pushed through it. It was the death of one of Carlos’ squad-mates right in front of his eyes. The scene isn’t fully complete yet as now Carlos needs to re-kill him as he’ll become a zombie but what I’ve got I actually rather like. It’ll still need a huge re-write but it shows I’m good at writing when I like what I am writing, at least.

Writing Group

Even more exciting news! Marie has finished her draft! Making her, technically, the first member of Anomalous Writing to finish a first draft of their novel, while being a member of Anomalous Writing. I say technically because Daniel technically claims that his fifty thousand words of his 2010 NaNoWriMo novel is a full draft, even though the second half is all dialog. I suppose it is technically true… technically.

I do like the word technically.

So I made a new page on the writing group for member achievements. It has spur again the idea of trophies/achievements for the members to accumulate so I think that is what I will be working on today. Ideas in that field.

Progress is progress. Actually I remember not really being in the mood to write so the fact that I got nearly eight hundred words I feel is impressive. Also I spent time getting Agate, my new writing laptop, up and running. But I always have excuses don’t I? Heh.

Everlasting Update

A few more background characters are trying to be charming enough to become main characters. Ugh. I needed to update Tyla to a main character because Lee needed a foil and some other character we could trust on the ship. She isn’t fully a main character yet as I don’t think I will write any scenes that are from her perspective. The scene of Lee taking charge in the ship sucks but then, they all suck. This one will need some re-work I think as what I am discovering isn’t that compelling.

Anomalous Writing

I think I can officially say that Anomalous Writing is a success. Sure I’m really the only steady member in the group in terms of attendance but we’re averaging two to three people each day. If all five plus one showed up it’d be amazing I think. Worthy of the name of this blog even! Heh. But I call the group a success since we’ve continued meeting for several months now and even restarted after the major Christmas holiday. Another two months and we’ll be able to celebrate our half year/6 month anniversary. Probably with more writing.

Well we are off to an auspicious start today! I sat down with my drink and then promptly spilled it all over the table. Amazingly none of my electronics were soaked (just some wiping). The drink completely missed my phone.

I am on a new laptop today. Transferring my files from my other laptop with Scrivener was a cinch but I’m finding new an interesting quirks about this laptop. It is now officially my writing laptop as its battery life is marked well above two hours, making it perfect for writing sessions away from a plug. It’s quirks are interesting but I’m determined to overcome them. Primarily the keyboard is tiny and the keys misplaced. Additionally the keyboard lacks a home and end button, which I am finding it amazingly hard to navigate my standard web browsing or writing without. I am looking into keyboard macros and since this laptop is fancy and has touch screen capability, I’ve tried mapping the home and end key to a touch gesture. I doubt that will prove out but it is worth a try. On the other hand if this is a touch screen… why don’t I just touch the end? Hmmm…. oh yeah because not having to lift my hands from the keyboard is a goal.

Everlasting Update

I wrote over 1000 words! But I feel like I’ve been somewhat cursed these last few days. So I doubt I’ll get nearly as much done today. For example it is already past five and I’ve yet to start. The thousand words were somewhat hard to push out last time but some of my side characters once again showed some interesting personality but NO MORE MAIN CHARACTERS!

Anomalous Writing Update

Writing group went well last time, obviously, as some writing got done, as well as conversation. It was just me and Jeana this time and we somehow managed to actually get some writing done. Today Marie appeared again with no excuse for missing but we won’t hold that against her as she bought us cookies. She actually has a goal of finishing her first draft by Saturday week (which is apparently Irish English for the next Saturday which I will now adopt in order to stop confusing “After next” issue).

New idea: Bring a video camera and record us writing for playback in order to see our expressions as we write.

Okay okay let me explain. The first half of my writing session I had to get some work done for my other hobby, Ruminant Productions. After that Jeana arrived and she was having problems with her story so I helped her out. So really I got a lot accomplished, just none of it really writing. I’ll do better this time! I promise!

Everlasting Update

Can’t really give you much of an update. I didn’t really write all that much. I started getting a little bogged down in trying to figure out the layout of my massively huge airship. However I’ve decided to skip that description of that in favor of continuing the story for now. Yay for following my own advice!

So I have a small problem in need of a solution. I have air battleships that are supposedly utterly awesome. Three of them. One for each faction but I think that is going to write me into a wall in the future… oooh never mind. I think I just figured it out.

Anomalous Writing Update

So the writing session last Thursday went well even if only Jeana and myself showed. I was able to help her out with a story problem and imparted what I felt was some decent advice from what I’ve learned from all my podcast studying. Stephanie joined us socially rather late and we discussed writing groups, which I sadly do not have the free time for it seems. I’ll need to make some time later after this novel is done.

Once again no word count progress but that was expected. Actually I was rather unproductive. I got two more scenes written and then I decided to re-invite a game for the Everlasting world I’m calling Penta. It is basically 5 weapon version of Rock Paper Scissors (popularly called Rock Paper Scissors Lizard Spock) but with the hand signs and names changed to fit my world.

Everlasting Update

Okay I feel better have the next few scenes outlined. Also ended up splitting a really long flashback scene of a side character into two scenes, which I think might be good dramatically. We shall see!

Anomalous Writing Update

Writing group last time went well. Daniel appeared to be in the zone. Marie was out of it, as was I, but I think we helped ourselves. Jeana also appeared and the other writing group did after, although there was not much mixing this time. Today it appears to be just me and Jeana and we’re not getting much done. Ah well.

So some decent outlining was done last time but I have to admit I don’t fully remember what happened. I remember a decent writers groups showing but nothing truly mind-blowing to report. Today I’m having to delay starting as I had the version of the Scrivener beta required me to download a version and update. Today some more outlining will be done. Hopefully I’ll get some more draft word count in next session.

Everlasting Update

Part of the outlining I did last time was to flesh out Tyla’s background a bit more, as well as the layout of the Iconoclast. Not exactly my stated goal but I did go back and update my current outline to be more in line with what I wrote before I started writing my outline again. So today will likely more actual outlining rather than playing upkeep.

Anomalous Writing

The writing group is going well. Daniel is here early today. I expect at least one or two of the others to show, along with the other writing group that has Steph in it. I wonder if they have a name. I’ve started posting the Weird Words collection that I keep on Anomalous’ private site here on this blog. Hope you enjoy the new content!
