Writing Sessions

Word Count: 1,358

Today’s writing session was comprised of two Everlasting windows as I will outline below. I got a good word count done across both and learned something about the characters. One thing I learned though is that not every window I write will be usable for Free Write. Mostly my antagonist characters, whose windows might reveal more plot points about the current version of Everlasting than I would like. Which is why I wrote two windows today.

Free Write (Everlasting Windows)

Two windows! The one you guys will see is Tigh’s window of buying a theater ticket. I learned a lot about Tigh in this one. I’ve also figured out that figuring out reasons for my higher class characters to purchase tickets is somewhat difficult.

Writing Sessions

Word Count: 1,000~

Extended writing session! I missed Thursday’s writing session due to work excessive work. So I decided to have an extended writing session on Saturday. I managed to write a full character window, and get about a thousand words done on Everlasting. I was joined by Codie who did school work, so I wasn’t alone. Writing went well overall with no major hiccups or blocks. I took a small rest between the window and writing on the novel. Honestly if Codie and I didn’t have errands, I’d probably continue writing. Maybe do some editing on Gerald or something.

Everlasting Update

Word Count: 117,462

Everlasting is feeling good again. And perhaps a bit overwhelming as I get to new territory and realizing I don’t feel like it is as well fleshed out as I like. Marla and Olivia are about to get out of the sewers and start interacting with new characters again and that is Dangerous because it means I have to make up what else the city is doing besides getting eaten by zombies or burning down. I also added some bible information. For example the equivalent of Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills is called Raol Drive in Qual City. It’s where most of the character windows are taking place right now (see below). Also thought up some new slang and a new piece of technology tentatively named wound gel.

While writing, Olivia I ended up giving her a semi-romantic connection to an NPC that randomly appeared. I think this will turn out to be really interesting and useful and I’m kinda proud of the decision. I think there is only a small chance I’ll regret it later! Whee.

Free Write (Everlasting Windows)

Character windows are turning out to be pretty easy, which I’m not sure is the point. I’m not always learning many new things the characters but I learn at least one thing and I think I better establish who they are. Plus it feels like I’m being productive for both Everlasting and still writing regularly for Free Writing! As I noted above, I’m also fleshing out the world somewhat as I write as well, although I’ll claim nothing in the character windows is cannon unless I want it to be… then again that is true of my novel as well, for now!

Writing Time: Everlasting #43

Writing Sessions

Word Count: 1,033

Today’s writing session was pretty easy. I worked on Everlasting and I seem to have gotten into the habit of writing on it at least once a week, which is good. I’m hitting over a thousand words per writing session. Distractions are mostly minimal although I need to look into getting to a habit of writing whenever I’m not really busy or wanting to do something in particular. Maybe that way I’ll update more!

I have been writing, even if I haven’t been updating. You’ll see that in the word counts below. Writing Sessions have been a small group of Steph and Ryan on Tuesdays and just myself on Thursdays. I should schedule another weekend of short story writing.

Everlasting Update

Word Count: 116,500

So a little less than two thousand words. That was mostly written in the last two weeks. Those are actual usable words. I’ve also been doing writing on the outline to try to get myself to some semblance of an ending and also I came up with (I think) an interesting zombie mythology that will distinguish this particular apocalypse from others. Of course it means completely re-writing major parts of the draft right now but hey, we were already going to do that right?

Free Write

Free Write almost had a hiccup a small while back in that I didn’t write any stories but kept working on a short story. That however, was made piece meal into four parts so I could put it on Free Write. I think that worked well. Since then I’ve gotten better about outputting one piece of fiction a week. I need to remind myself that Free Write isn’t about making a complete story but just writing. So the format for Free Write my change soon. Perhaps implementing windows for characters from Everlasting. If I limit my these windows to 250 words or so, so I don’t end up taking too long with them. The advantage is that you’ll get to see my characters as they flesh themselves out more.

In case you don’t know what a window is, it is a technique where in you write a small scene with a particular a character to get a feel for how they’d react in that situation. Mundane stuff like going shopping, or dealing with an irate customer, or something similar. The idea is that each of your characters should react differently enough to be distinct characters.
