Commentary:

The thing I hated the most about grade school might have been spelling. Even more than bullies or the science fair. I remember there was a grade, I think second, where every Wednesday we learned new words and the worst part was using that word in a sentence. I was horrible at it. Sentences took so long to write and I never used the words correctly. I hated my teacher for forcing me to do those and grew to dread Wednesdays as the worst day of the week.

And now I’m trying to write a novel.

Teachers really do get a short end in life huh?

Weird Words: Irascible

by on Mar.02, 2011, under Articles, Weird Words, Writing

Another new segment! Because you know, I don’t post enough stuff on here as it is.

Weird Words! I collect words for Anomalous Writing, my writing group, for use in our writing sessions and I realized, why not share with everyone? So here you go. Format may vary as I figure it all out.

Irascible

Adjective

  • Easily provoked to outbursts of anger; irritable

Related Terms:

  • Irascibility
  • Irascibleness
  • Irascibly

Used in a sentence:

  • Everybody knew the town drunk, Roger, was irascible but nobody ever thought he’d kill a man.

Notes: My browser spell checker, amazingly, has no problem with irascible, irascibility, or irascibly, but takes issue with irascibleness. Which I understand. I wish there was less irsacileness in the world.
